Baby names explanation...

So, 11 votes on a name and I'm left wondering who voted for what. Probably, explanations are in order. First of all, my husband comes up with the worst names humanly possible. I suggest something sane like "Daniel" or "Samuel" and he comes up with "Johnny Cash" or "Brigham Augustus." We hoovered around "Aaron Joseph" for a while, but because of its lack of signficance, Bob vetoed it. Thus, we've been driven straight to family names: His name, "Robert," my maiden name, "Hammon." Dry, but we'd call him Robbie and I am trying to convince myself that I can live with that. "William" and "Ronald" are our grandfather's names. We'd call him "Will." "Max" is a single syllable name like Jack and Lee and it's the only name I really like that Bob has a tolerance for. "Canisteo" is his hometown, a Seneca word meaning something about "headwaters." It was sort of a peace offering for suggesting "Max." Anyway, we're lost. I'm practially in labor. He's out of town. My baby will come home from the hospital nameless unless someone posts a better suggestion. So, if you vote "other", let me know if you have something better for us.

Well, I picked Max Canisteo because I like the name Max the best so far. It could be expanded to Maxwell, if you'd rather use a different middle name - that is, if either of you even like "Maxwell"... Like "Maxwell Robert", etc.

But, as you well know, I am the last person who should be advising on names! :)

I voted for Robert Hammon, but wonder if your uncle Bobby would swell with pride if the baby's name was so similiar to his. I like Max as well. Names with special meaning add so much character. My own name is my grandmothers' middle names. Clara Frances and Essie Elizabeth. I love my name and am so proud to be connected to my grandparents this way. All of your reasons and ideas are very good. My friend Debi named her kids Cole and Chase because she wanted them to be able to spell part of their name before kindergarten. Their last name is Nishumoto. Good Luck

Austin something-or-other? Or maybe as a middle name?

When Aaron and I finally have kids... we're thinking of middle names like 'Zeal,' 'Humble' and 'Bravery', 'Gracious' and 'Joyous.' Etcetera. (Kinda like wearing leopard print underwear- not very many people are ever going to see it, but it makes you feel pretty spiffy anyways.)

We also had a hilarious conversation about what adverbs NOT to name our kids... like Pious or Thrifty or Fruitful or Warmonger.

Warmonger was Aaron's idea. Maybe we'll name the cat that. Or a very small dog.

Actually, for a while, we considered "Austin Canisteo." Our hometowns. How lame are we?

I had a roommate in college named Nyla. Her parents were from NY and LA.

May I suggest that the placeholder name given in the blog header deserves some copy editing in honor of the pending arrival of the soon-to-be former fetus?

Baby No Name seems more appropiate than the current version.

Other than that worthless comment, I have no business naming anything, let alone children.
